Bodonian case bound books

How to properly create files

In order to create files for printing Bodonian-style Case-Bound Books, you will have to prepare three different files. Let’s have a look at them!

1. Cover cardboard file

The book with bodonian binding includes a cover composed of the cover cardboard glued in the first and fourth on a soft cover. The file of the cardboard must measure 1.5cm less than the size of the interior (measure to be removed left in first and right in fourth cover).

2. Cover file

The cover file must be supplied flat and including the spine (if the size of the spine is not present in the product or in the quote you can ask for our assistance). Important to note that only the spine + 1.5cm to the right + 1.5cm will remain visible on the front of the cover. In the remaining areas of the cover (delimited in the graphic with a red cross) the cardboard will be glued and then will remain covered and not visible.

Blank area for glue

In order to set up the book, it is important to leave a blank area on the second page, which shall be as wide as the spine plus 5mm on the left and 5mm on the right side: moreover, it shall be as high as the book, including bleed. Example: If the spine is 5cm, you will have to leave a 6cm width.

3. Interior File

The file for the interior shall be created on a single page, from the first page to the last one, with a 5mm bleed for each side.

Checklist

Always remember that your file has to comply with the following features that apply to every file:

  • 1:1 scale and 5mm bleed for each side
  • CMYK colour model
  • High-quality PDF
  • Images resolution: 300ppi
  • Always check the internal security margins.
