How to properly create files
The peculiarity of Perfect-Bound Books with Flat Paperback is the lack of printed elements on the spine, which makes it possible to have a 180-degree opening. In order to print this kind of product, you will only need to create one file, starting from the template that you can download on the product page. Let’s have a look!
1. Graphic file
Once our form has been duly filled in with all your product’s features, you will automatically be able to download the layout, which is ready to be customised using your own graphic designs (either in PDF or InDesign formats). The first two pages will be part of the cover then there will be the interior and finally the third and fourth page will be – once again – part of the cover. Don’t forget that you can’t print anything on the spine!
The multipage templates generated by our website are visualised in InDesign with pages which are not placed side by side. If you need to work with pages placed side by side, you can go on FILE > DOCUMENT SETUP and activate the voice "Facing Pages"
Pay attention to the matching of images and illustrations on double pages
Flat paperback binding is made using single sheets (front and rear) and not with folded signatures as it is for other kinds of binding. For this reason once the pages are placed side by side, it will be possible to observe a misalignment of 1 mm. So we suggest you to avoid images and graphic elements that have to be perfectly matched between double pages (see example).Checklist
Always remember that your file has to comply with the following features that apply to every file:
- 1:1 scale and 5mm bleed for each side
- CMYK colour model
- High-quality PDF
- Images resolution: 300ppi
- Always check the internal security margins.
